Low Sugar, Healthy Lunches and Snacks

School is open and are you already wondering how to make healthy snacks and lunches fun for your kids as well as yourself? I have some great ideas tested and ready to go! All these suggestions are low sugar and have healthy fats. Enjoy!  

  • Whole wheat bow tie pasta with left over veggies and chicken from the night before with regular low sugar dressing (put in separate container and pour over just before eating)
  • Natural peanut butter and sliced bananas on whole wheat or wrap
  • Tortilla pinwheels wraps with hummus, turkey, veggies (minced), spread thinly and rolled up tightly.  Slice into 1 inch spirals.
  • Couscous with corn, peas, chicken with a bit of mayo and a squeeze of lemon juice
  • Corn cakes with salsa
  • Leftover pancakes with cream cheese and sliced fruit, rolled up (add a low fat sausage if you want)
  • Quesadillas with cheese and minced red peppers with pepper jack cheese) Heat on both sides in a skillet to melt cheese
  • Mini pizza on mini bagels.  Broil to melt the cheese.
  • Jumbo egg topped with hot sauce
  • 1/2 banana plus unsweetened coconut for dipping
  • 1/2 Cup salsa, 2 Tablespoons sour cream topped on a small baked potato
  • 1/4 Cup salsa topped on half an avocado
  • 1/2 small apple with 2 teaspoons natural peanut butter
  • 1 Cup squash (acorn, butternut or zucchini)
  • 1/2 Cup strawberries, cut up with 1/2 Cup plain whole milk yogurt
  • 5 oz. cottage cheese
  • 30 frozen grapes 
  • 1 oz. nuts
  • 1 oz. mozzarella with 1/2 Cup cut up cherry tomatoes and fresh basil
  • Big green salad with a bit of regular low sugar dressing

  • 1 Cup watermelon
  • 2 Cups cantaloupe
  • 1 Cup unsweetened applesauce
